Dental Marketing in Illinois

Illinois is really two search markets sharing one state. Most residents live in and around Chicago, where a dental office competes block by block with dozens of nearby practices. Across the rest of the state, practices in cities like Peoria, Rockford, and Springfield draw patients from wide rural areas where a single strong listing can decide who gets the call.

This page explains how we approach local search, Google Business Profile, paid ads, websites, and reviews for Illinois dental practices in both settings, and links to our detailed Chicago metro program.

The Numbers

Illinois at a Glance

12.7 million

Illinois residents

Census Bureau estimate for July 2025.

About 68%

live in the Chicago metro

Roughly 8.7 million people in the nine Illinois counties of the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metro, which also reaches into northwest Indiana.

3

dental schools in the state

UIC in Chicago, Midwestern University in Downers Grove, and SIU in Alton, the only one outside the Chicago metro.

Population figures are U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2025 estimates. Dental school details come from each school's own website.

Two Markets

Chicagoland and Downstate Need Different Plans

The Chicago metro

The city of Chicago alone has about 2.7 million residents, and the suburbs in DuPage, Lake, Will, Kane, and McHenry counties add millions more. Search results here change from one suburb to the next, so an office in Oak Park and an office in Orland Park are really in different contests.

What tends to work: a page for each nearby community you serve, a Business Profile that matches your exact address and hours, and ad campaigns limited to the area patients will realistically drive or ride transit from.

Downstate Illinois

Outside Chicagoland, the largest metros are much smaller:

  • Peoria: about 364,000 people
  • Rockford: about 337,000 people
  • Champaign-Urbana: about 240,000 people
  • Springfield: about 206,000 people
  • Bloomington: about 171,000 people

With fewer competing offices, steady reviews, complete listings, and a website that loads fast on rural mobile connections can move a practice up quickly. Patients also travel farther, so we name the surrounding towns you serve on the site and in the profile.

Our Approach

Where We Start With an Illinois Practice

  1. Step 1

Name the towns patients actually type

A searcher in Naperville rarely types Chicago, and a family in Normal may type Bloomington or nothing at all. We pull the town names from your own new patient records and build service area wording, location pages, and Business Profile details around those places instead of one statewide label.

  2. Step 2

Treat the Business Profile as a second home page

Google says local results lean on relevance, distance, and prominence. For an Illinois office that means the right primary category, current hours (including holiday and winter weather changes), real photos of the building and team areas, and a steady flow of answered reviews.

  3. Step 3

Draw the ad map by drive time, not county lines

Cook, DuPage, Lake, and Will counties are large enough that a county wide radius wastes clicks on people an hour away in traffic. Downstate, the opposite problem shows up: a tight radius can miss patients who happily drive in from surrounding farm towns. We set Google Ads locations to people who are in or regularly in the area and adjust after the first month of call data.

  4. Step 4

Make booking easy on a phone

Plenty of patients find a dental site for the first time on a phone. Fast pages, a tap to call button that works, clear insurance and payment wording, and an online request form that asks only for what the front desk needs all raise the share of visits that turn into appointments.

  5. Step 5

Ask every happy patient, reply to every review

Google lists review count and rating among the signals behind local rankings, in the crowded Chicago suburbs and in smaller downstate cities alike. We set up a simple request flow by text or email and draft replies your team can approve.

Working Together

A Remote Team for Illinois Practices

We do not have an office in Illinois. Our team works from Sacramento and San Mateo, California, and handles Illinois accounts remotely through scheduled video calls, shared reporting, and email. Our team has been building websites since 2014, and we have served more than 100 practices.

Because Illinois runs on Central time, two hours ahead of us, we schedule check-ins in your morning or early afternoon so they fit around patient hours. If your office is downstate and outside the Chicago program, the same approach applies; we simply build the plan around your city and the towns around it.
